July 2010

Micah moved up to a new class in daycare a few weeks ago.  The main prerequisites for the "Toddler" class were: Walking, drinking from a cup, and introduction to the potty.  Now Micah practices going to the potty at least 5 times a day at school.  He is also required to wear pull-ups--which costs more AND you get fewer pull-ups in each box! What sense does that make?!

I forgot to mention in the previous blog that at his 18 month appointment, Micah is now in the 25th percentile for weight (25 lbs.) and in the 50th percentile for height (~32 in. long).  He is still very particular about his food, but he is getting a "little" better (and I use that word very lightly.)

Micah LOVES bubbles, "bub-bas!" as he calls it. His favorite toys are block puzzles, the activity barn, and his books.  Micah learned how to climb over the ottoman last weekend, so this is a new activity he does over and over again. He likes to dance, and Dewayne taught him a two-step that he does whenever he is climbing the stairs.  The problem is that he does the two-step jig after climbing each individual step which makes for a very LONG trip up the stairs! Finally, as soon as we get upstairs from the basement, Micah stomps directly to the refrigerator and yells, "Mik! Mik!" (Milk.) He is also aware that the panty contains yummy food, so whenever we open the pantry door, you can hear Micah yell, "Peeees!" (Please.)

His temper tantrums have slightly changed recently.  For the past few months, the tantrums consisted of falling to the floor and bumping his head, followed by kicking his legs and rolling side-to- side.  I guess he quickly realized that dropping his head on the hardwood floor wasn't a good idea, so then he altered his tantrum by taking his time to gently lie down before kicking his legs and screaming.  Lately, he just found it easier to lay down on his stomach and do the reverse army crawl when he's not getting his way.  It's actually quite humorous...I should get some video of this for future blackmail...

...When asked, "Where is Micah's hair?"

I think it's safe to say that Micah is not shy of the camera!

18 Months Old!

"Uh Oh!"

Micah is now 18 months old! He is now walking, climbing, & reaching for door knobs. He loves to open and close (and open & close) cabinets and doors.  He even applauds himself whenever he shuts a door! And, he LOVES, LOVES, LOVES turning the water faucet on & off (and on & off...)

In a matter of 2 weeks, Micah had 9 teeth come in...ALL AT ONE TIME!
Poor Micah!

He is learning so much at school! Micah can identify numbers 1 through 10! He can't verbalize all of the numbers yet, though. Right now, he is working on learning different shapes!

Micah is also becoming more and more aware of our cat, Buffy.  Very exciting for Micah...quite frightening for Buffy!

Notice anything different? Micah had a HAIR CUT!!! Let me explain...Micah's hair was getting OUT OF CONTROL! (Dewayne has been living vicariously through Micah's hair and was reluctant of getting it cut, but he finally agreed!) You cannot imagine how convenient this has made the task of grooming Micah's hair on a daily basis!

Remember my complaints about Micah's frequent ear infections? Well, the problem was resolved in May with Micah getting tubes in his ears.  Since then, he's only had one ear infection in the past 3 months (as opposed to averaging one ear infection per month!) The last photo was taken just before he went into surgery.

14 Months Old!

Remember the vicious daycare germs? Well, they struck again! Micah had his second ear infection in February! (Personally, I think that the first ear infection just lingered on for several weeks.)  And, if that weren't enough, while we were visiting family in Houston, Micah caught a stomach bug and shared it with the family! Ugh, that was a rough weekend!

When we visited his pediatrician to follow up on the ear infection, Micah had lost a few pounds and, subsequently, dropped slightly below his growth curve.  The majority of the weight loss was, more than likely, due to the recurrent illnesses, however, some of it was probably due to the fact that Micah has turned into a very picky eater.  (More on this later...)  Luckily, after adding Pediasure and an extra meal during the day, he quickly returned to his normal growth curve.

By the end of February, Micah had mastered cruising along the furniture, the walls, and with his Fisher Price Lion Walker. He also learned how to say the words "please", "more", "eat", and "milk" in sign language.

13 Months Old!

I know that I am incredibly behind! Who knew 2010 would be so busy?!

Well, the new year brought a relentless cold into our household! Micah also had his first ear infection in the middle of January, and, it hit him like a ton of bricks! It was awful! His fever peaked at 103 and his doctor's office said that Micah had to have a fever for 3 days until they would see him. He slept for 20+ hours during the day, and refused to eat. After 48 hours, we broke down and took him to the after hours clinic.  The pediatrician told me, "Mom, it's just a cold."  I was convinced that it was more than just a cold---is this a sixth sense of being a mother? Finally, Monday came and we were first in line to see the doctor. Guess what his doctor said? Yep, it's more than a cold, it's a double ear infection! Thankfully, the fever finally broke shortly after Micah began the antibiotic. Unfortunately, it seemed as if he was stuck in the vicious cycle of daycare germs for the entire month. I'm sure those of you who have children in daycare can sympathize with me.

The pictures below are his 13 month pictures in his chair...as you can see, he LOVES the camera! He especially loves this new pose when he sticks his neck out, squints his eyes, and shows all four of his teeth!

Micah's 1st Birthday!

Happy Birthday, Micah!!!

Micah celebrated his 1st birthday on December 31, 2009! (What a cool birth date to have, right?!) He actually began the festivities a week earlier in Mobile with the Grandparents and his Aunt & Uncle. Then, he had another party on the 30th at daycare where the kids devoured a cookie cake, well, everybody but Micah--he just played with the icing. The little boy next to Micah ate not only his own piece, but Micah's piece, too!

The following day, on the 31st, we had another birthday party at our house. Some of Micah's closest friends were in attendance for the celebration. Since there were 8 children ages 3 and under, I tried to make sure that there were activities suited for everyone. There was a pool of balls for the age 1 and under on one corner of a huge mat that was laid out in the kitchen, ---although, the big kids played in it, too. The other 3 corners had either cardboard books, tambourines, or coloring books with crayons. I also had a "Winnie the Pooh" movie playing on the television within view from the mat.

The kids just played for the first hour, followed by snack, gifts, and cake during the next hour. Micah enjoyed his cake this time, probably because it was from Edgar's bakery! Speaking of the cake, Edgar's did a fabulous job with both his birthday cake & smash cake!

By the time the party was over, the pool of balls that once contained 145 balls, was left with only 10. I'm still finding them in random places!

So, within the past week, Micah had 3 birthday parties! What a lucky kid!

Enjoy the pictures!
